Deer Isle is the perfect spot for this 3-day event that combines birding on foot, by boat and a variety of art offerings by the abundant community of artists here. Specifically welcoming to families and beginners, this festival offers two dozen activities starting with a boat trip out to Swan's Island, followed by the festival's signature art exhibit and opening that evening. Two trips to Matinicus Seal Island offer sightings of Atlantic Puffins, Razorbills, Northern Gannets and others. Plus a bird's eye view of Deer Isle from a Cessna 260! More than twenty species of warblers are seen on the several guided walks on the island's preserves. Kids will enjoy the live owl demo and learning how to check blue bird nesting boxes for signs of new life. The Harbor Cafe, a local favorite, puts on a special birders supper. After tucking away a slice of homemade pie, step next door to the Stonington Town Hall to hear Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge biologist, Linda Welch, offer an update on Maine's sea birds.
