Blackwoods Campground is located on Route 3 in the village of Otter Creek, five miles south of Bar Harbor. Named for the dark green color of the spruce and fir forest around it, the campground is open year-round and features 306 campsites that accommodate tents, camper trailers, and RVs up to 35 feet long.
An overnight fee is charged May 1 through October 31, when the campground is staffed by rangers. Reservations are strongly encouraged: Contact the National Recreation Reservation Service online or by calling 877-444-6777.
Campers may self-register during shoulder seasons. Winter camping is free from December 1 through March 31, but facilities are limited and the entrance road is not plowed. Winter campers are urged to contact the park in advance of their arrival.
Amenities are limited to restrooms with cold running water, water faucets, and an RV dump station. No hook-ups or utilities are available. Campsites—outfitted with a picnic table, grill, and fire ring—accommodate two tents and one vehicle. Tents must be erected on the designated tent pad.
Group camping for up to 15 people is available, but campsites must be reserved in advance. Hot showers, laundry facilities, and firewood are available just north of the entrance on Route 3. Campers are invited to the regular evening campfire programs conducted by park rangers and held at the amphitheater. A 10-minute walk on the Ocean Path leads to bold ocean vistas. The Cadillac South Ridge Trail begins its journey to the top of Cadillac Mountain from Blackwoods.
