Seawall Campground
Seawall Campground

Seawall Campground is located the west side of Mount Desert Island on Route 102A, four miles south of Southwest Harbor. Named for the amazing natural seawall nearby, the campground features 214 campsites that accommodate tents, camper trailers, and RVs up to 35 feet long.

Seawall is open late May through the end of September: An overnight fee is charged. Reservations are recommended, although only half the campsites may be reserved.  Remaining campsites are available first come, first-served. Contact the National Recreation Reservation Service online or by calling 877-444-6777.

Amenities are limited to restrooms with cold running water, water faucets, and an RV dump station. No hook-ups or utilities available. Campsites—outfitted with a picnic table, grill, and fire ring—accommodate two tents and one vehicle; tents must be erected on the designated tent pad.

Hot showers and firewood are available at a small store just east of the entrance on Route 102A. Campers are invited to the regular evening campfire programs conducted by park rangers and held at the amphitheater.

Campers will want to visit the Seawall Picnic Area, directly opposite the entrance on Route 102A. Here, a half-mile of cobble seawall forms a natural barrier between land and sea. Relax and enjoy a picnic and bold ocean views at one of the lovely picnic sites. A few miles west are the short, scenic hikes of Wonderland Trail and Ship Harbor Trail. Both are fun walks suitable for the whole family. The scenic Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse is just off Route 102A, not far from the village of Bass Harbor.

Seawall Campground is served by the free Island Explorer shuttle bus, a great way to see Acadia National Park without the driving and parking hassles.
