The Hostel@Acorn by the Sea offers among the best of Maine's natural coastal scenery and is hidden away, tucked into a quiet place along Eggemoggin Reach on private gravel roads set about with spruce, pine and oak trees. Housed in our former ice house, it's a relaxing, slightly quirky and budget friendly option for short stays in the area.
We offer six private rooms with either twin-, full-, or queen-sized beds. There is a communal kitchen in which to fix your own meals and two full bathrooms with more modern plumbing, living room and library. We have “country WiFi" for keeping in touch on email and doing simple internet searches. Park here on the property for free. It's just a short walk down the hill to our shoreline. Wade in the salt water or take your kayak out. Go for a hike up to Lookout Rock on our 60 acres or leave the property to explore what the area has to offer. Then come back to enjoy a fire in the living room on a chilly night or sit and relax on our covered porch and watch the fireflies dance over the lawn and gardens.
This is a wonderful lodging for those seeking a peaceful retreat....for those 18 or older. Our cottages are perfect for families with children.
We are centrally located on the Blue Hill Peninsula with it's amazing nature preserves, hiking trails, the natural living center, farm stands, organic gardens, abundant wildlife, boating opportunities, accessible islands with sparkling sandy beaches, art galleries, cafes, restaurants, musical events, and more.
We also have Open Mic nights in our Barn on Thursday evenings. The piano is tuned and the wood box is full ready for a cozy fire in the stone hearth.
We look forward to welcoming you!
