SUMMARY:It’s a Big Universe – Where Do We Fit In?
DESCRIPTION:Since ancient times\, people have looked to the sun\, moon\, and stars\, asking the question\, How big is the cosmos? How do I fit in? \nIn this image-enhanced presentation\, astronomy volunteer Richard Luecke will describe how people have answered these questions\, how the answers have changed over the centuries\, and how they continue to change. Luecke will guide a 50-minute journey through the solar system into our home galaxy\, the Milky Way\, and beyond to the edge of the visible universe\, 13.8 light-years away in every direction. A 30-minute outside laser tour of the summer night sky will follow (weather permitting) to see Saturn and Jupiter\, the pale glow of the Milky Way\, major constellations\, and likely a few flashing meteors. \nBring binoculars\, if you have them\, and dress warmly. Space is limited!

SUMMARY:Sea and Sky: Painting Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Far from the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor\, Schoodic Peninsula has dramatic rock formations\, windblown pines\, pounding surf\, and stunning mountain views that draw visitors from around the world. This workshop led by Carol Douglas is aimed at helping painters refine their personal technique in watercolor\, pastel\, oils\, and acrylics. It will help you find your own voice and style\, without becoming anyone’s clone. This is an intensive class\, with morning and afternoon on-site painting sessions and lunch-time demos. Classes are kept small so every student gets the attention they deserve. \nCarol Douglas has 20 years of experience teaching students of all levels in watercolor\, oils\, acrylics\, and pastels. Her Acadia workshops are very popular. \nAll meals and lodging are included\, as is a day trip to the harbor at Corea\, Maine. Far off the beaten path\, Corea is a village of small frame houses\, fishing piers\, and lobster traps. Its working fleet bustles in and out of the harbor. Space is limited and participants are expected to follow all current COVID-19 health and safety requirements. \nThe one-week workshop is just $1685\, including five days\, accommodation in a private room with a shared bath\, meals\, snacks\, and instruction. Or\, take the workshop as a commuter for $625.
