Outdoor Adventure

For the adventurous spirit, DownEast Acadia is the perfect vacation spot. Scenic routes for hikers and bikers are endless, ranging from leisurely jaunts to heart-pumping exercise. Rock- and ice-climbers have long loved to test their skills on our many granite cliffs overlooking the Atlantic. Acadia National Park is home to the highest climbable sea cliffs on the entire East Coast. You can hire a guide and equipment for a thrilling but safe climbing adventure.

On-the-water activity ranges from solo or guided sea kayaking to leisurely pond paddling, to boating on guided excursions or on your own. Sunrise and sunset cruises are especially spectacular. We’re home to some of the most pristine night sky in the nation; that plus the bioluminescence on the water make an evening cruise magical. You might want to consider SCUBA diving—equipment and classes provided—a great way to view underwater life up close. Night diving, wreck diving, and ice diving charters are all offered, too.

The adventures don’t end there. Ride a historic schooner and help raise the sails while the sun sets, take a biplane ride for a bird's eye view of the whole area, or try a hot-air balloon adventure. Round out your adventures with a relaxing fishing trip on our pristine lakes. Or rev things up with an ATV or snowmobile trip along the Down East Sunrise Trail.
