Campgrounds & Camping

DownEast Acadia offers some of the best camping opportunities available in Maine. You'll find campgrounds with gorgeous views of oceans, lakes, and mountains in secluded locations and also nearby city and towns.

Imagine pitching your tent or parking the RV just above the shore, listening to the sounds of the ocean waves as you fire up the grill after a day of hiking. Perhaps you’d like to settle in by a lake, where the campground provides safe swimming opportunities and all kinds of water activities the kids will love. Or maybe you prefer the woods—the aroma of cedar and spruce, the sight of deer and the flutter of an escaping grouse amidst the shadowy glade.

We have campgrounds that range from the simple and rustic to full-service, with free hot showers, full hook-ups, game rooms, laundry, stores, and WiFi, and some with restaurants on the premises. Campgrounds are a wonderful opportunity for you to set up just how you like—whether, in a tent or RV, it’s your home-away-from-home. Many campgrounds offer central amphitheaters with nighttime bonfires and informational talks—a great time to get to know your fellow travelers.

Some campgrounds even offer limited opportunities for winter camping. No matter the season, it’s advisable to make your reservation early.

Last but not least, camping is a great way to enjoy one of Maine’s most valuable natural resources—the night sky. Thanks to miles of vast wilderness and the Atlantic Ocean, all unpolluted by light, Maine is home to one of the largest expanses of naturally dark sky east of the Mississippi—letting the Milky Way and sometimes even the aurora borealis shine bright!
